Golden Circle Theatre Party - Frequently Asked Questions

General Event Information

What is the Golden Circle Theatre Party and how does the flow of the evening go?

The Golden Circle Theatre Party is one of the Bay Area’s premier social and philanthropic events and Santa Clara University’s longest-running black-tie fundraiser. Held in the heart of downtown San José, the evening features a celebration of Mass, a performance by a nationally recognized entertainer, an elegant seated dinner, and dancing to live music.

Following Mass, guests make their way to the theater for the featured performance, which begins promptly at 6:00 p.m. After the show, attendees are welcomed into a festive parade procession as they stroll to the Signia by Hilton hotel, where the celebration continues. A reception, followed by dinner and dancing, fills the hotel’s Ballroom Level with energy and excitement throughout the evening. The festivities conclude at 1:30 a.m. with the closure of the final dance floor.

What is the dress code for the Golden Circle?

The Golden Circle is a black-tie affair, so enjoy the opportunity to dress for the occasion. Tuxedos are customary for gentlemen, while ladies typically wear floor-length gowns, elegant cocktail dresses, or sophisticated evening pantsuits.

Because the evening includes walking between venues, many guests find it helpful to bring a bag with a comfortable pair of shoes for the journey. Coat check services are available at both the theater and the hotel for your convenience.

How is the seating determined in the theatre?

Seating is determined based upon the ticket price. The higher the donation level, the better the seats.

How do guests get from one venue to the next?

While shuttle buses are available for guests who prefer them, many attendees enjoy strolling between venues alongside fellow Golden Circle guests. The festive parade from the theater to the hotel is a beloved tradition and one of the evening’s highlights.

A helpful tip: consider bringing a bag with a comfortable pair of flats or walking shoes for the journey between venues. For your convenience, the coat checks at both the theater and the hotel will securely hold your belongings throughout the evening.

When is the entertainer announced?

Usually, by the end of August.

Dinner and Dancing at the Signia by Hilton Hotel

What is the difference between dining rooms?

More than 2,000 guests gather each year for the Golden Circle, filling much of the Ballroom Level at the Signia by Hilton San Jose. Seating in the two premier ballrooms - the Imperial and Regency - is reserved for guests purchasing tickets at the higher giving levels.

Each dining room offers its own distinctive atmosphere and live entertainment. The grand ballrooms feature full bands and lively performances, while the smaller, more intimate dining rooms showcase a variety of musical acts, including performances by Santa Clara University’s exceptionally talented student musicians.

The Club Regency Ballroom, located on the hotel’s entry level, comes alive later in the evening with a live band and late-night dancing, making it a favorite destination for guests looking to celebrate well into the night.

What is the "best" dining room to sit in at the Signia?

The best choice depends on the experience you and your guests are seeking. The grand ballrooms offer an energetic atmosphere and are among the most popular spaces of the evening. As a result, they tend to be lively and bustling during dinner, and the dance floors fill quickly once the festivities begin.

If you prefer a more relaxed dining experience where conversation can flow more easily, one of the smaller, more intimate dining rooms may be the perfect fit for your group. No matter where you are seated, guests are encouraged to explore each of the ballrooms throughout the evening. After dinner, the entire Ballroom Level and Club Regency come alive as each room features its own style of entertainment and musical genre, creating a vibrant and varied experience for everyone to enjoy.

Is there a photographer who can capture a picture for us?

There is a photo station located on the Ballroom Level of the hotel. Your email address will be collected so that we can send your photos to you shortly after the event.

Does the Signia by Hilton offer a special room rate for Golden Circle attendees?

Yes. The hotel offers discounted room rates for Golden Circle guests. A link to the Signia by Hilton room block, as well as contact information for other nearby hotels, is available on the Accommodations page of the Golden Circle website. The Signia by Hilton link is typically available starting in late Summer.

Reservations and Tickets

How can I reserve tickets and when should I do so?

Beginning March 1, please visit the "Request Reservation" link on the Golden Circle website to submit your seating request. Preferred dining rooms often reach capacity quickly, so we encourage you to reserve your seats as early as possible.

Once the featured entertainer is announced in late summer, you will receive an invoice and be asked to confirm your reservation and seating preferences.

When and how do I pay for my tickets?

Reservation holders will receive an invoice in late summer following the announcement of the featured entertainer. Payment is due by December 31, 2026, and may be made by check, credit card, or appreciated stock.

A large portion of each ticket purchase is tax-deductible. The deductible amount will be indicated on your receipt after your payment has been received and processed.

When will I get my Golden Circle tickets?

Paid tickets will be mailed via USPS approximately two weeks prior to the event.

Are tickets discounted for students or young alumni?

With Golden Circle being a fundraiser, the University is unable to subsidize discounted tickets.

How many seats are at each table?

There are ten (10) seats at a table. We are able to accommodate a limited number of adjustments to this, if necessary. Please contact (408) 554-5405 for assistance with larger tables.

Are there sponsorship opportunities?

Yes! The Partners in Gold Program offers opportunities to support SCU student scholarships and other University needs at levels beginning at $10,000. Please contact a member of the Golden Circle staff team to discuss partnership levels or make further inquiry.

Day of the Event

Where should I park?

For guests staying overnight at the Signia by Hilton, onsite parking is available. Several public parking garages and lots are also conveniently located throughout downtown.

As parking availability can be affected by other events and activities taking place in downtown San Jose on the day of Golden Circle, we encourage guests to plan accordingly. Whenever possible, ridesharing and carpooling are recommended for a more convenient arrival and departure experience.

Is there a Will Call desk at the event?

Yes. Will Call service is available at two locations during the event. From 5:00 to 6:15 p.m., guests may pick up tickets at the Will Call table located just outside the theater entrance. A second Will Call table will be available in the main lobby of the hotel from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m.

What do I do if I forget my tickets on the day of the event?

We will happily help you at one of the two Will Call tables which are located either outside the theatre (5:00-6:15 p.m.) or in the hotel lobby (7:15-8:30 p.m.)

Who do I contact for special accommodations at the Golden Circle?

Please contact Mary Johnson at mmjohnson@scu.edu or call (408) 554-5405 for any special needs (seating, dietary, etc.)

Is there a coat check available?

Yes. Both the theatre and the hotel offer coat checks.
